Robes and crowns embody the virtues and spirits;patterns on them shining all the time. Among five millennia of Chinese history, the robes and crowns cascade like a galaxy. Weavers use the ancient loom as writing brush, the colorful silk thread as ink, sketch the spiritual blueprint of Eastern aesthetics within the narrow folds and sleeves. Since the Yellow Emperor established etiquette to rule his land, the beauty of robes and crowns was like a flowing poetry. The twelve patterns, shifting with the sun and moon, reflect the majesty of the emperor, while the five colors of cloth and silk, arising from the alternation of Yin and Yang, embody the essence of ritual and music. The Taotie patterns of the Shang and Zhou dynasties whisper mysteriously on bronze vessels; the gown with curved hem of the Qin and Han dynasties flow with solemnity among bamboo slips; the Baoxiang flower of the Tang dynasty dance with the "Hu-style" (referring to foreign, especially Central Asian, influences); the decorative ties of the Song Beizi carry a lingering mist of ink-wash.
